New information released by the a leading industry body has shed further light on the massive boom in the UK’s buy to let market. The data, which was published by the CML (Council of Mortgage Lenders) reveals that the number of buy to let mortgages in the UK has hit 1.4 million. That’s the highest ever figure recorded.
The buy to let boom, which is fuelled by the huge increase in demand for rental property, now accounts for more than 10,000 mortgages every month. The last quarterly data reported by the CML shows that 34,500 new buy to let mortgages were isseued in the third quarter of 2011. That’s a massive 16 per cent rise on the previous quarter.
The buy to let boom is responsible for a surge in new financial products aimed at amateur landlords. The last two years has seen a massive rise in the number of buy to let mortgages and Buy to let insurance products on the market, as struggling financial institutions look to cash in on the boom.
